There are a variety of ways to get to the Foothills by ground transportation.
From Bellingham, head east along WA-542 E/Mt Baker Hwy. To get to Van Zandt or Acme, veer right onto WA-9 S/Valley Hwy at the split just after Deming. For all other communities, continue on WA-542 E/Mt Baker Hwy.
If you’re an experienced cycler and you’re looking to get out of town for a day, the Foothills makes for some spectacular riding. The route is the exact same as one would take by car: east from Bellingham along WA-542 E/Mt Baker Hwy. To get to Van Zandt or Acme, veer right onto WA-9 S/Valley Hwy at the split just after Deming.

The easiest way to get to the Foothills from outside the region by bus is to first travel to Bellingham, WA.
Popular commercial bus companies that have regular routes between Seattle and Bellingham include BoltBus, Bellair Charters & Airporter and Greyhound. Bus companies with regular routes between Vancouver, British Columbia and Bellingham include Quick Coach and GotoBus.
Deming, Van Zandt, Maple Falls and Kendall can be reached on the 72X bus from Bellingham. More information can obtained from the Whatcom Transit Authority. Currently, there are no WTA buses to Acme or Glacier.
Amtrak offers multiple trains per day between Seattle, WA. and Vancouver, British Columbia. All trains include a stop in Bellingham, WA.
